1.5 days (Introduction to Ruth McDowell’s template piecing)
Overview: This one and a half-day workshop is designed as an introduction to the
freezer-paper picture piecing method used by many quilters today such as Ruth
McDowell and Cynthia England. Margo has developed a number of her own easy
straight-line patterns that give students a ‘taste’ of the basic techniques, which can then
be applied in more advanced piecing projects. The poinsettia* block is a fun project that
can be made using just a few fat quarters and a border fabric for those wishing to focus
on the piecing method and not as much
the fabric selection process.
Alternatively, for those more daring
students multiple fabric scraps can be
utilized, engaging the student in the fun
but more challenging task of fabric
selection, experimenting with a wider
variety of fabrics and creating more‘fractured’ compositions.
